About the Montana Coal Board

The Coal Board is a citizen board of seven members appointed by the Governor 2-15-1821, MCA. The members are selected as follows: two from coal impact areas; and two with expertise in education. At least two but not more than four members must be appointed from each district provided for in 5-1-102, MCA. In making the appointments, the governor shall consider people from the following fields: business; engineering; public administration; and planning.
