Miles Community College to Repurpose Armory Building, Continue Certification Programs

Tuesday, May 10, 2016/Categories: Community Development Division, Community Development Block Grant Program, Montana Coal Board

On May 6, Lt. Governor Mike Cooney visited the former National Guard Armory in Miles City, where Miles Community College is using grants from the Department of Commerce to purchase and rehabilitate the building so it may continue offering its CDL and heavy equipment certification programs.

Through Miles City and Custer County, the college received $700,000 in Community Development Block Grants and Coal Board grants for the project. The CDL and heavy equipment certification programs provide skills to the local workforce that employers are looking for. Without the grants, the college may have needed to eliminate the programs due to limited classroom space.
