Missoula’s Homeword Inc, a nonprofit affordable housing developer, has been awarded $1.4 million from the Montana Department of Commerce’s Housing Trust Fund (HTF) for the rehabilitation of the Hearthstone Apartments in Anaconda. Hearthstone is an affordable apartment complex where seniors and individuals with disabilities call home.
“This funding will support our strong, vibrant communities, allowing our partners to take action to address community needs,” Commerce Director Pam Haxby-Cote said. “Commerce, the Housing Trust Fund and Homeword can do this by funding projects that provide safe homes for our friends and neighbors in Montana.”
Homeword’s HTF award will preserve the affordability and fund the rehabilitation of 74 rental homes in the center of Anaconda. The rehabilitation of the property will improve the existing homes by adding new flooring, counters, new or improved ventilation systems, and major safety upgrades for better accessibility.
The Housing Trust Fund Program is an affordable housing program funded by HUD and administered through Commerce that complements existing federal, state, and local efforts to increase the supply of decent, safe, and affordable housing for lower-income, special needs, and homeless individuals and families.
